The Snow Summit Arc is the sixteenth arc in the series and the fifth arc in the Yami/Yomi Saga.
Plot[]
Enjoying the Snow[]
The arc begins at Yomi Headquarters; Boris was practicing Combat Sambo against a dummy. Another Yomi member (which Boris Ivanov revealed was name Raden Tidat Jihan) came in and heard that Boris was under house arrest. Boris explained to Raden that he would not have defeated Kenichi Shirahama because there was some mysterious light in Kenichi’s eyes. Raden told Boris that he would defeat Kenichi, because he is a king. On a snowy mountain, Kenichi, Miu Fūrinji, Natsu Tanimoto, Haruo Niijima, and the first-year students were there on a field trip. Miss Ono told the principal that some foreigners had rented out half of the mountain. Natsu warned Kenichi that he could be attacked by Yomi at any moment. Then, a child fell near them while she was skiing then got scared when saw Kenichi. Suddenly, Miu was almost hit by another skier and the girl threw Kenichi over a cliff. Miu followed and somehow saw him on the ski lift. Miu jumped to the ski lift and woke up Kenichi as he doesn’t remember what happened. They searched all over for the girl until a blizzard came and forced them to find shelter. Suddenly, Miu got sick from the storm and remembered her mother saying that she’ll protect her. Kenichi carried Miu through the blizzard until they came across a mansion with a long carpet covered in rose pedals. At Ryōzanpaku, as the Masters had just found out that none of them are with Kenichi and Miu. as Hayato told them to relax, since the two will be gone for a day. However, the elder would hope that nothing would happen to Miu as she is in the storm. Back at the mountain, Natsu thought Yomi was in the mountain when he an Nijima saw Kenichi’s and Miu’s snowboards abandoned. Back at Ryōzanpaku, the elder and Shigure Kōsaka saw there’s a blizzard in the mountains on television. as The Elder told Shigure that Miu's mother died in a snowstorm and became a dormant trauma in Miu every time she's in a blizzard.
Desperate Battle in the Snow[]
In the mansion, Kenichi and Miu were greeted by one of the YOMI members: Jihan. He revealed himself as Raden Tidat Jihan the crown prince of a country called Tidat. Raden wanted Kenichi and Miu to stay and offered them hot meals, dry clothes and entertainment. Miu wanted to leave and find the lost girl; however, the lost girl was actually one of Jihan’s servants. Miu saw martial arts through the entertainers’ dance movements and knew Raden was a member of Yomi called Nagaraja. He planned on separating Kenichi from Miu but decided to have his servants attack both of them. Miu took down the women for Kenichi and even one of the male servants before coming down from the trauma. Raden explained that only people like him and Miu were born to be kings while Kenichi are just commoners. Raden didn’t see anything special about Kenichi, but when Miu got hurt by one of Jihan’s servants, Kenichi defeated the servants that caught him and wanted them to apologize. Kenichi and Miu escaped when threw one of Jihan’s men through a window. But the prince and his men went after the two and finally impressed with Kenichi’s skills. At the ski lodge, Ono told the principal that Kenichi and Miu are missing and had to search for them. Natsu and Nijima left the lodge to search for the two missing students as well while the former was giving the latter info on Raden. Raden attacked above Kenichi from a flying snowmobile with his Pencak Silat Fighting Style. Miu explained that even her grandfather had a difficult fight against someone that used Pencak Silat. Miu tried to fight in Kenichi’s place, but she was still sick and was captured by one of the servants while being hauled away. Raden cut some part under Kenichi’s eye and threw in a few hits, but Kenichi was worried about saving Miu and kicked snow at the prince to escape. Miu eventually threw her captor off the snowmobile, took control of it and picked up Kenichi after he jumped from a cliff to escape (though Kenichi missed landing on the snowmobile by a few feet).
As Kenichi and Mui flee on the snowmobile, Kenichi senses an incredibly cold gaze aimed at him and sees Raden and his master together on top of a cliff. Raden's master observes Kenichi and orders Raden to kill Kenichi at all costs. On the ski lift, Hermit explains to Niijima that Pencak Silat used to only be taught exclusively to the Royal Families in Indonesia, but it has now spread to the people. Natsu also warns that he knows that Raden is there to kill Kenichi for the title of Strongest Disciple. When Miu's illness causes her to pass out while driving, Kenichi has to rescue them before they drove off a cliff. To escape the blizzard, Kenichi brings Miu to a ropeway station, but he leaves Miu inside it when he hears snowmobiles following him. When Kenichi told Miu to be safe while closing the door, Miu remembers her mother’s last words before she died, and fears Kenichi may die. When Raden arrives, he explained to Kenichi that after he kills Kenichi, he will kill Miu as well, since she’s the daughter of the Invincible Superman, Hayato Furinji. Upon hearing Raden's threat, Kenichi vows to defeat him and his servants. Raden finally realizes Kenichi's true nature and declares him a revolutionary who's trying to shatter the social order. He vows to stamp out Kenichi's "revolution" because he is a king. As the fight begins Kenichi asks his masters for strength.
Prince vs. Pauper[]
Kenichi attacked Raden while going up the steps but got knocked back down after Raden tried to poke his eyes out. Raden used Juls in his attempt to rip off Kenichi’s head and attack his groin, but Kenichi barely evaded them. Kenichi realizes the source of his opponent's strength is his decisive aim for the kill and considers entering the dimension where lives are taken to kill Jihan only to chicken out. Kenichi tries to plan on what to do next (by building a snowman) and uses Raden's ego to keep him from coming down to attack. Kenichi comes up with something and rushes up again to attack, vowing to land at least land one punch. Raden counters with the third Juls, but Kenichi still lands his first hit in their fight. Kenichi reveals the technique he used was taught by his master Sakaki: Meotoude.
A flashback shows Sakaki explaining to Kenichi that as Karate becomes more of a sport, there were traditions that have been lost. He shows Kenichi Meotoude as one of the traditions and demonstrates it as a way of moving both fists at the same time for both attacking and defense. He describes it as the moment the front hand strikes, the back hand follows, and the enemy will end up coughing blood.
Back at the fight, Kenichi lands another blow on Raden and blocks his counters with Meotoude. As Raden is stunned that Kenichi could find an opening in his style, he remembers all the techniques of karate users he's fought have been the same: simplistically concise and pure martial arts. Kenichi punches Raden down the stair, but Raden displays his good reflexes and is able to kick Kenichi directly in the stomach while falling down. Infuriated Kenichi was able to harm him, Raden orders one of his servants throw a knife into Kenichi’s left shoulder and declares that as he king, he cannot allow himself to lose. Raden's servants find where Miu is hidden and Raden orders them to kill her, but this spurs Kenichi, who declares he is the one who can't allow himself to lose and he takes out the servants and pummels Raden with his Strongest Combo #2, throwing him into a rail that gives out. Raden grabs onto the side of the ledge and pulls himself where he discovers Kenichi is (literally) now the one above him. Raden asks Kenichi if a normal person surpassing the king is his revolution, but Kenichi answers he hasn't been thinking about that at all.
Raden remembers his childhood where he couldn't connect with anyone because he was the king and declares has to surpass others and be special or otherwise, he would just be alone. Raden calls in more of his men just to distract Kenichi, allowing him to get close and begin strangling him with his Sarong. Kenichi is saved when Hermit and Niijima arrive and throw a ski pole at Raden, forcing him to let go of Kenichi to block it. While Hermit defeats the servants with his Chinese Kempo, Raden tries to kill Kenichi by aiming for his stab wound declaring he will even use cowardly tactics to defeat his enemies. Niijima saves Kenichi by throwing a snowball with rocks hidden inside at Raden and his servants. He tells Raden that even though he was born a king, Kenichi is more interesting because he crawled up from being a weakling. Kenichi has one last clash with Raden and defeats him with a punch to the face, but Raden grabs him and pulls them both over the cliff. When Niijima fears Kenichi is dead, Hermit smacks him in the head and tells him Kenichi won't die from the fall and to get Miu before they search for him. Down at the bottom, Raden is about to kill an unconscious Kenichi when his master arrives. Raden explains he is about to deal the final blow, but the master calls him a disgrace to Pencak Silat. The master then screams so loud that it summons an avalanche as he tells Raden he has no more use for him.
Kenichi regains consciousness and sees the incoming avalanche while Raden asks his master if he is betraying him. Raden's master tells Raden that he is a failure who would never be able to master his Supreme Silat and that Raden was only his disciple until he made that judgement. Raden argues that he is the crown prince of Tidat, but his master is indifferent and declares himself a god: the Demon Fist God, Silkwat Jenazad. Jenazad leaves Raden and Kenichi to perish and Hermit arrives in a snowmobile to rescue Kenichi. Kenichi tries to save Raden as well, but he declares he will use dirty tricks, betray others, and keep scheming until he runs out of strategies, but won’t receive his enemy’s pity: because he is a king. Raden throws Kenichi to Hermit and is buried under the avalanche.
Aftermath[]
In the morning, Niijima comes out of a bivouac (shaped like his face) that he made for shelter. Kenichi, Miu, and Natsu also come out and are found by the principal and Miss Ono. Back at Ryōzanpaku, Miu finally regained consciousness and tearfully hugs Kenichi, thanking him for saving her and being alive, but accidently grabs on his knife wound and causes him to pass out from pain. The Elder speaks with Apachai and admits he didn't foresee Yami's ambush in the mountains. Apachai reveals he knows someone in Yami and is willing to die to protect Kenichi and the Elder adds it is the master's responsibility. Meanwhile at Yomi Headquarters, Shō Kanō relays Raden's death and that Silkwat said that he can easily find and train another disciple to Raden's level right away. The Yomi members (most that are unmasked) wonder who is next to fight.
